Re: SLOW PERFORMANCE OF MAP 3D 2006
Hello everybody!
We were eagerly waiting for the service pack on Map 3D 2006 which we got and installed in our systems. Surprisingly we didn't find any difference. Following problem still persists.
1. system runs slow (out of resource)
2. image display problem (resolution low)
3. loosing of objects from a block structure while exploding the block using VISUAL LISP programs. We never faced this problem using AutoCAD Map 2004.
4. regeneration is not deactivated during exploding the blocks and pan movement after making REGENAUTO >> OFF.
We are thinking to go back with AutoCAD Map 2004. However, is it possible to get reactivation codes of AuotCAD Map 2004 against Map 3D 2006???
Please come forward with your views. Thanks to all of you in advance.
Regards,
Shyam

Re: Autodesk Map 3D 2006 Performanceb
I have also have noticed the slowness of 2006, but have fixed most of it by tuning off most of the "extras" that automatically are on when first loading this version.
Examples would be:
1) DYN tab
2) Automatic save
3) Selection Preview (in options dialog box, selection tab)
4) And typing in "mapskinmap" to get the old appearance back
5) Turn off all AutoTrack Settings (options dialog box, drafting tab)
The one thing I've noticed with this version is all the bells and whistles are automatically turned on when you load the program.
You then have to figure out how to turn everything off to get the performance back along with the functionality you need to actually work in the program.
I don't like so many things popping up and highlighting when I'm working, it's to distracting!!

Autodesk Map 3D 2006 Performance
Problème de cohabitation entre les versions
I was sick of the performance I try installing 2006 on a new unit that just had only windows xp installed.
The system worked much better then mine.
So I uninstall all copies of every Autodesk product I had installed including the whip apps.
After that I manual went looking for any file or folder that had autodesk or AutoCAD in the name and deleted them.
Reinstalled just 2006 and things are much better. But still not as good as 2004.
But I have not tried the tweaks in this thread.
Mieux avec land Desktop
Re: Autodesk Map 3D 2006 Performance
One interesting observation I've made:
We have both Land Desktop seats and Map only seats in our office. The "Land enabled Map" versions run much faster than the Map only versions.
I also noticed a disturbing trend in the program size for Land Desktop. 2004 was 500 mb, 2005 was 800 mb, 2006 is 2.1 gigabytes.
I am sure Map 3d had a similar increase and probably has a lot to do with the speed problems.
I'd rather see autodesk go the other way and strip out the unnecessary fluff.

Re: SLOW PERFORMANCE OF MAP 3D 2006
Changing al that setting won't help very much (but a little).
I also installed SP1 and plotting is normal now. But overall slow performance didn't disappear.
When i work a 15-30 minutes with MAP the programm is running very slow.
Restart MAP and its running OK.
But... after 15-30 minutes... very slow again.
In the windowstaskmanager my CPU usage is 100%. clsoing MAP CPU usgae is 2%.
Starting MAP CPU usage is 2-5%. Working with MAP CPU usage is 2-100%.
After 15 minutes (or 30 sometimes) CPU usage is not going down to about 50% after awhile CPU usage stays at 100%.
I'm glad, i'm not working a lot with map. If i can, i start ACAD 2006 and only when i have to, i use MAP.
Re: SLOW PERFORMANCE OF MAP 3D 2006
I am having similar experiences with Map 3D.
v After working in Map for awhile, my CPU usage is up at 100%.
The only way I've found to bring it down is to shut Map down completely and restart. CPU usage drops to 2% immediately on shutdown.
I am beginning to wonder if there is not a memory leak somewhere.
This is happening to me even with small drawings; i.e. under 1MB in size, and when I am not using raster images.
I have experimented with it, starting a new drawing and then doing absolutely nothing else. i can literally watch Map start to eat up resources, both CPU usage and Page FIle size increasing over time.

cpu 50%
- fenetre visual lisp partielle :
cpu 0%
- rebascule vers un dessin ;
cpu 30 /40 %

Re: SLOW PERFORMANCE OF MAP 3D 2006
The first requires editing the registry. If you are not comfortable doing that, ask your administrator.
By the way, I read another post about a possible flaw and several of the guys suggested that it was a Microsoft bug and not Autocad. Short story, after you open Autocad the first time, minimize it and then restore it. When you minimize it, it will release ram and come back with greatly reduced memory usage. Don't understand it but it seems to help.
You can open Task Manager before launching Autocad (or any other program for that matter) and check the memory usage. Autocad usually starts at over 350 megs. After minimizing and restoring, it comes back at somewhere 15 or 20 megs......big difference.
As you are working in Autocad, it might help to periodically minimize and then restore.
